A lot of us may have pondered over the same question, and I am curious to know what answers you came up with. I, on the other hand, have some solid explanations on why room service is so expensive.

1. Competitive advantage: I often check into hotels in Bridgewater NJ due to work appointments and there hasn’t been a single time that I could see the room service menu while booking. It’s not available at the time of booking and hence, the hotel gets a competitive advantage for you won’t get discouraged to choose the hotel due to high pricing of room service. By the time you get to the hotel, you’re already their customer, and they can charge relatively higher for room service.

2. High kitchen running costs: The amount of money that goes into running a kitchen 24/7 affects the prices of room service in hotels. It doesn’t work like restaurants that work during peak hours and has a limited period of work per day. So, it’s actually expensive to prepare food in the hotel kitchens except for peak times. To cover this cost, they keep high prices altogether.

3. You pay for the time saved: As a person who is usually pretty tired when he checks into the room of any hotels in Clinton NJ, it makes sense to order room service for it saves time and energy. It’s a luxury, and it always comes at a cost.

4. Many travelers aren’t sensitive to the room service fee: I think it’s pretty clear that I am a business traveler who often visits Hotels in Bridgewater NJ. As the company often covers my hotel expenses, I don’t mind if the room service is expensive. I don’t have to pay for it. Most of the hotels get a major chunk of their regular visitors from such business trips. Therefore, the majority of their customers don’t mind them keeping it expensive.

5. Most of the hotels operate room service facility at a loss: And they still try it again to turn it profitable. There have been studies and articles published about this, especially during the economic slowdown, that room service is often a facility that generates nothing but loss to hotels. I have personally asked the question from friendly staff at select Clinton NJ hotels and confirmed the same. It’s the high operations costs that don't get covered even if they keep prices so high.

6. It discourages you to order: It’s a very different theory, but many restaurateurs agree by it. Room service is just too much of extra expenses for a hotel. You need additional staff that has to be available 24/7 and hence get paid for all those work hours. Again, the biggest problem is with the hotels trying to cut down their expenses and make profits.

Those are the reasons why room service is so expensive. What’s your take on it?

As I have been a regular visitor in Clinton NJ hotels, a lot of you may wonder what’s my favorite hotel in the area. It’s Hisclinton.com for its great service and comfort.
